Make birthday and thank-you cards
Make two folded paper cards: a warm birthday message and a small thank-you to give by hand.
Activity steps
- Start with two card blanks,After brunch is cleared and the table is clean, cover the craft surface. Give each guest three sheets of US-letter colored cardstock: fold two in half into 5.5 × 8.5-inch cards, using the third for decorations. Share a pencil, ruler and scissors between two, glue between three and markers among six.
- Make a personal front cover,Sketch a favorite flower, abstract shape, birthday initial or tiny memory on the spare cardstock. Cut and glue flat pieces onto the card fronts, adding smaller details with markers. Keep the design flat so it will fit the envelope and let anyone who prefers simply draw.
- Add a birthday wish and a thank-you,Give each guest two blank 4 × 6-inch cards for message panels. Write one birthday wish for the guest of honor and one thank-you for someone else. Place each panel vertically inside its folded card and glue it in. Sharing the message aloud is entirely optional.
- Let the cards dry and give them,Leave cards open until dry, then place each in an envelope with usable interior space of at least 5.75 × 8.75 inches. Write recipients’ names and give the birthday cards to the guest of honor. Take the thank-you card home to deliver by hand; postage is outside this plan.
Two cards per person give everyone a small project beyond signing a shared card. Keep messages private when preferred and move food away before putting out glue and markers.
