Costume parade and freeze dance

Take a cheerful costume parade around the room, then play freeze dance with the silliest monster poses you can invent.

Three children in dinosaur, bat and pumpkin costumes making playful freeze-dance poses with a grown-up in a sunny living room

Activity steps

  1. Make room for little monsters,Clear a small walking and dancing space. Set up a music player with a cheerful playlist at a comfortable volume. Ask a grown-up to draw one simple monster-pose cue per guest on cardstock, sharing a set of markers. Guests can draw a character idea or song request on a small blank card. If using floor spots, space them out and test their grip on your floor first. A few bat decorations can inspire poses; mount them outside the movement area with suitable tape.
  2. Lead the costume parade,Take turns walking through the room and showing one costume detail. Guests without costumes can invent a monster walk, a bat flap, or a friendly ghost wave. Start with a gentle clap-and-shake rhythm warm-up if you have age-appropriate shakers, then put them aside. Use any photo props for a still pose before the parade, not while moving. Assemble props in advance and choose friendly pumpkins, glasses or ghosts for children, setting scarier designs aside.
  3. Dance, freeze, giggle,Play a song and invite everyone to move. Pause the music and hold up a pose card for a funny freeze, then restart. Keep everyone in the game and finish with a group monster bow. For another round, wave loose scarves and freeze with them held still. Never tie scarves around the neck; supervise children and keep props out of the dance route.

A phone speaker works for a small room. No one needs a new costume, prizes, or a perfect dance move to join in. Scarves, shakers, floor spots and pose props are suggestions, not requirements. Borrow suitable supplies or use clapping and clear starting positions instead.
