Activity steps

  1. Warp the loom

    Follow the small loom’s instructions to stretch parallel warp threads evenly. Keep tension firm but not tight enough to bend the frame. Thread the shuttle with one yarn colour.

  2. Weave the first rows

    Pass over one warp and under the next. Reverse the sequence on the return row. Leave a small arc of yarn before pressing it down with the comb so the sides do not pull inward.

  3. Change colour and texture

    Add short colour blocks, leaving tails to weave in later. Keep checking that the sides stay parallel. Stop with room to secure the top and bottom threads.

  4. Take it off the loom

    Secure warp ends as the loom instructions direct, slide or tie the top loops onto the dowel, and weave loose ends into the back. Add a hanging cord and trim the fringe.

Host tip: A small panel is enough for a first session. Guests can keep weaving later if they need more time.
