Stamp-Printed Tea Towels & Gift Wrap

Use ready-made stamps to print a cotton tea towel and a matching sheet of gift wrap.

Activity steps
Prepare the cloth
Prewash, dry and iron plain cotton towels. Cover the table, slide cardboard beneath the towel and tape its corners gently. Check the ink label for fabric suitability and later heat setting.
Test the stamp
Ink a ready-made stamp evenly and press it on a scrap card. Practise pressure without rocking. Mark a few light spacing guides or choose a loose scattered pattern.
Print two surfaces
Stamp the towel in rows or a border, re-inking consistently. Use the same motifs on plain gift wrap. Keep wet areas away from hands and sleeves.
Set the print
Leave both pieces flat until dry. Send the ink maker’s heat-setting and wash instructions home; an adult heat-sets the towel later if required. Clean stamps as directed.
Host tip: This activity uses ready-made stamps. Carving stamps has its own separate adult workshop.
Choose materials suitable for everyone’s age. Supervise children with scissors, needles and small parts. Keep craft supplies separate from food.
