Activity steps

  1. Sort the materials

    Use clean, thoroughly dried fallen material gathered where permitted, or bought dried botanicals. Discard moldy, sharp or unidentified irritating plants. Arrange six small bundles per person.

  2. Bind the first bundle

    Attach wire to the hoop. Hold a small bundle against it and wrap firmly around the stems several times, keeping cut ends inward.

  3. Build around the hoop

    Overlap each new bundle over the previous binding. Continue around the ring, then tuck the final stems under the first bundle. Adults trim wire and fold every end inward.

  4. Finish the hanging loop

    Tie a strong cord loop to the hoop and add a ribbon bow. Check that pieces stay attached with a gentle shake over the table. Display dry, away from candles and heat.

Host tip: Choose light materials and a modest size. Wreaths with fragile leaves travel best lying flat.
