Brush Lettering Cards & Gift Tags

Practise thick and thin brush strokes, then letter two cards and three gift tags.

Activity steps
Warm up the strokes
Use smooth practice paper and a short word. Hold the brush pen lightly and practise thin upward lines and thicker downward lines, changing pressure rather than twisting the tip.
Build a short word
Write letters slowly and lift the pen between strokes. Try a short name or greeting several times. Pencil a light baseline and leave generous space.
Letter the cards
Choose two successful designs for the cards and three names or short phrases for tags. Let ink dry before erasing pencil lines or adding simple borders.
Finish the tags
Punch a hole if needed and tie cord through. Allow all ink to dry before stacking, then keep the practice sheets for another lettering session.
Host tip: Short words are easier to complete confidently than long quotes.
Choose materials suitable for everyone’s age. Supervise children with scissors, needles and small parts. Keep craft supplies separate from food.
