Activity steps

  1. Choose a palette

    Pick two or three yarn colours. Cut a cardboard tassel template about 10 cm tall and measure a 2-metre hanging cord. Plan four pom-poms and four tassels.

  2. Make pom-poms

    Wind yarn evenly around the maker, close it and cut along the groove. Tie firmly through the centre before opening the maker. Trim over the table so loose fibres are easy to collect.

  3. Make tassels

    Wrap yarn around the cardboard about 25 times. Tie the top, slide it off and tie a second band just below the top. Cut the bottom loops and trim evenly.

  4. String and hang

    Tie the pieces onto the cord at even intervals, using a blunt yarn needle where needed. Make loops at both ends and hang out of reach of young children and pets. Sweep up yarn scraps.

Host tip: Treat the garland as decoration. Keep all hanging cords away from cribs and play areas.
