Activity steps

  1. Portion the clay

    Give each guest 200 g of clay on a work mat and a name card. Set out a little water and blunt texture tools. Keep spare clay airtight so it stays workable.

  2. Shape a small object

    Knead briefly. Pinch a shallow dish or roll simple shapes for a figure, keeping thickness even and avoiding long thin parts. Lightly score and moisten joining surfaces, press them together, then smooth the seam.

  3. Add texture

    Use a blunt pencil end or sturdy texture object to make shallow impressions. Smooth cracks with a barely damp fingertip. Avoid soaking the piece or making it thick enough to stay wet inside.

  4. Dry before decorating

    Place the named mat in a shallow carry box without touching the clay. Follow the clay label: Crayola Air-Dry typically needs about 24 hours to feel dry and 72 hours to dry fully. Paint only after full drying in a later session.
