Activity steps

  1. Set up each place

    Give everyone a canvas and two brushes. Share paint and a palette among three, with stable rinse cups between two. Cover the work surface, wear aprons and set aside a level drying area.

  2. Block in the picture

    Sketch a few large shapes lightly. Paint the background in a thin layer, then add the main shapes as the first layer dries. Mix small amounts of colour on the palette.

  3. Add one detail

    Use the smaller brush for dots, lines or a focal point. Sign the edge and leave the canvas flat; thick paint may remain wet after the session.

  4. Display and carry

    Invite each guest to share a favourite detail. Rinse tools, wipe tables and pack only dry canvases. Leave wet work flat for later collection.

Host tip: Show two or three simple starting shapes and let guests choose their own subject.

Choose materials suitable for everyone’s age. Supervise children with scissors, needles and small parts. Keep craft supplies separate from food.
