Halloween dance party

Queue everyone’s favorite party songs, clear a dance floor, and let the costumes take on a life of their own.

A warmly lit Halloween house party with costumed friends gathered for music and dancing

Activity steps

  1. Build the party queue,Ask each guest for one favorite party song ahead of time and queue them on a device you already own. Connect a speaker and clear space for dancing. Put out cardstock and markers so each guest can write a playful character dance prompt. If using colored starting spots, space them apart, test their grip on the floor and remove any that slip. A few bat decorations can mark the dance corner when mounted clear of people and exits.
  2. Give the characters a dance,Start the music and invite everyone onto the floor. Mix familiar songs with Halloween favorites and let guests join at their own pace. Try a brief gentle shaker rhythm warm-up, then put the instruments aside before moving. Wave loose scarves for one song if everyone wants to; keep them away from faces and never tie them around the neck.
  3. Play the character dance-off,For the last few songs, invite pairs to pick a prompt, such as a tiptoeing vampire or a sleepy robot, and invent a short dance while everyone cheers. Rotate willing dancers, then finish with a group finale. Pumpkin photo props can introduce each character with a still pose, then go back on the table before dancing. Keep any light cords, stands and decorations outside the movement area.

A charged phone and the speaker you already have are plenty. Leave a quieter spot for guests who want to talk between songs. Scarves, shakers, floor spots and pose props are suggestions to borrow or skip. Keep any party-light effect gentle and choose a steady setting or turn it off if guests prefer.
