Watercolor Cards & Postcards

Paint two cards with loose washes, simple florals or a miniature landscape.

For: Ages 6+ with adult help, teens & adults

Activity steps

1. Make a small studio

   Give each guest two watercolor postcards and two brushes. Share a paint set and palette among three, with rinse water and a cloth between two. Keep drinks separate from paint water.

2. Try a wash

   Wet a brush, lift a little pigment and test a pale wash on the back of a label card. On the first postcard, paint a simple landscape or a few loose petals, leaving white space.

3. Paint a second idea

   Try a different colour combination on the second card. Let adjacent areas dry if you want crisp edges. Add small details with a lightly loaded brush.

4. Dry and send

   Lay cards flat with name labels. Rinse brushes and empty water cups. Write messages only when the cards are fully dry; do not stack or envelope damp paintings.

Host tip: Let guests use a few brush marks as inspiration without asking them to copy a finished sample.

Choose materials suitable for everyone’s age. Supervise children with scissors, needles and small parts. Keep craft supplies separate from food.
