Dinosaur clay crafts
Press patterns into clay or build a colourful dinosaur with a kit, then give your creation a name.
Activity steps
- Choose your craft approach,For DIY footprints, allow 100 g of air-dry clay per guest and share three sturdy texture objects among each group of three. For kit dinosaurs, allow one kit for every five guests and one skeleton model per child. Choose one approach and uncheck the other supplies in your shopping list.
- Prepare the discovery table,Cover a table for each group of six and give every guest a clean, flat craft mat. Keep food off the table. Arrange 24 decorative leaves around the room and hang six dinosaur swirls above reach; reuse this setup for the clue trail. For the kit, read the included guide and keep spare models and loose eyes with the adult.
- Make your clay creations,DIY: split the clay into two pieces and flatten them into thick disks. Press a sturdy toy footprint or texture into each, then lift the object away. All-in-one: following the kit guide, cover one skeleton per guest with clay. Shape it by hand, take turns with the included sculpting tool and add eyes as directed.
- Name the discoveries,Write the maker’s name and a name for their creation on one card, sharing markers among six guests. Leave the label beside the work. Invite guests to show a detail they noticed; they may speak, show silently or ask a helper to explain. Collect tools and small parts and wash hands before the hunt.
- Let the clay dry,Leave the work on the mat and follow the chosen clay or kit’s drying and handling instructions. Keep mats flat and support them from underneath when moving wet work. Arrange later collection if pieces are not ready to travel.
Try your chosen craft before the party and follow its package directions. Each child makes either two DIY impressions or one kit dinosaur. Leave creations on their mats until they can be moved safely.
