Activity steps

  1. Lay out two designs

    Give each guest a tray, 45 beads, 60 cm of bracelet elastic, one metre of charm cord and a clasp. Tape one elastic end to the tray. Plan a bracelet around 30 beads and a shorter charm with the remainder, adjusting to wrist and bead size.

  2. String the bracelet

    Pre-stretch the elastic gently, then thread the bracelet. Check the fit before tying a secure surgeon’s knot. An adult checks the knot before trimming, leaving a short tail. Do not add glue unless the elastic manufacturer recommends a compatible adhesive.

  3. Attach the bag charm

    Fold the charm cord in half, pass the fold through the clasp’s closed ring and pass both ends through the loop. Thread beads on both strands, then tie a firm stopper knot beneath the last bead. Test gently over the tray before trimming.

  4. Pack the pair

    Clip the charm to a bag strap loop. Label a paper bag for each pair, sweep up loose beads and keep them away from young children and pets.
